A local store, owned right here in Wellington

See how it works

The ownership of GoodFor Wellington changed as of early 2026

GoodFor Wellington is locally owned and operated, and retains the principles of supplying a wide range of everyday essentials items in a package-free format has not.

GoodFor Wellington, properly local

Alison grew up in the UK and has lived and worked in Wellington for the past 35 years. Olivia was born and bought up in Wellington. We are Wellington locals, have a Wellington business, are involved in local organisations, and want to support other local businesses and organisations.

The ownership has changed, we are now locally owned and operated, but the principles of supplying a wide range of everyday essentials items in a package-free format has not.

Sharing a loathing of the normal supermarket shopping experience and preferring to shop at smaller local shops, GoodFor has always been a relaxed and easy shopping experience. We want this to continue, whilst also increasing our stock levels and products that are available.

Locally owned and operated means the decision making stays in Wellington, we support local businesses where we can, and have regular contact with customers, suppliers and the team. Decisions made around the Wellington store are done with the Wellington community and local knowledge in mind.

What local ownership means for you

By being hands-on local owners, we can see what is happening in the store on a regular basis, we are here and actively involved in all aspects of the business.

Local buying decisions

Being in Wellington and regularly in the store, I see what it is selling well, what customers are looking at and for.

More local suppliers

Building a rapport with our suppliers is important to me, meeting with them, speaking with them and having a shared understanding of how we can help reduce packaging and support and promote each other. Not simply being a business but building a future for our city.

A store shaped by its customers

To me, being present in the store regularly is an important way of connecting with our customers. Finding out what they are wanting, seeing first hand what is being purchased and how, is vital to creating the shopping experience we want to portray.

What we believe good shopping should look like

Stocking your pantry without having to see a whole range of plastic and cellophane packages staring back at you is achievable by doing your shopping at a refillery store.

Buying what you want in your own containers, saves lots of unnecessary packaging.

Not everything can be done at once, start small and work your way through your pantry, bathroom and laundry cupboards.

You don’t need fancy jars, or matching containers to make a difference, start with what you have – a recycled jam jar, an empty shampoo bottle. If they can be cleaned and used again, use them.

That in itself is avoiding waste and unnecessary purchases.

GoodFor supplies quality products for everyday consumption.

We supply organic and spray-free where possible, for everyday items, not just speciality items.

As a locally owned business we like to have direct dealings with our suppliers.

Meet the GoodFor Wellington team

Alison

Owner / Store Manager

Originally from the UK I have lived and worked in Wellington for over 35 years. I am a very reluctant shopper and loathe the regular supermarket shopping experience!

Favourite thing currently in the store

The fact I can do the majority of my shopping in one place, saves me a lot of stress!

Holly

Assistant Manager

I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of the GoodFor team since 2021. When I’m not in-store I enjoy knitting, swimming and trying out new recipes.

Favourite thing currently in the store

I always make sure I’m stocked up with our Maple Syrup and Tahini to use in my baking!
